PAPPARAZZI MACHINE

  • Client:   WOW Gallery, Los Angeles CA.
  • Design:   Terry Richardson
  • Photography:   Sheena Bonner
  • My Role:   Engineering and Creative Production

This is a motion sensored art piece commissioned by Terry Richardson for the art show Terrywood in Los Angeles. I engineered the full fabrication of the piece including graphic re-touching and flash effect methods while working with a colleague to program and spec the internal mechanisms including motion sensors hidden within a small 1/4" bezel in the aluminum frame and individual sequenced LED's programed to correspond to a sound track of camera clicks that played thru internal hidden speakers.

When walking thru the field of vision for the motion sensors the lighting and sound would be triggered and the Papparazzi would feverishly snap away.... don't worry ... there was an off switch if needed.

After the show in Los Angeles Paris Hilton purchased the piece and myself and my colleague installed it in her house which is where the instagram video post was taken from.

The process was interesting as Terry Richardson's team only provided a small low res image and had no involvement in the development of the piece. His first time to lay eyes on it was at the opening of his own show. He has no idea who made this for him nor do the celebrities that posed in front it.
